The story
Marnie finds Nick beside a small musical carousel on the sideboard. He has pulled up a chair. Every time the same horse comes around, he acknowledges it with a tiny nod. Bram arrives carrying three cups of coffee and pauses to understand the seating arrangement.
“Are we waiting for something?” Bram asks. “The blue one,” Nick says. It arrives. Nick nods. The blue one leaves. Marnie looks at him, then at the empty space where it was. “Did you get what you needed?” Nick considers this carefully. “One more turn.”
Bram puts the coffee down. Marnie sits beside Nick, keeping her cup away from the moving display. On the next circuit, she gives the blue horse a nod of her own. Nick notices and moves the biscuit plate within her reach. The meeting has acquired a second member. There is still no agenda.
A small place to stop
A musical carousel can give a sideboard or mantel a little movement without filling the whole surface. Measure its footprint and leave clear space around moving parts. Check how the music and motion are controlled, the power requirements and the volume options listed for the particular model. Choose a position where seated guests can actually see the details.
